Our Story

Getting ready to ziplineWhen Loop Abroad was created by Addam and Jane in 2009, we wanted a place for students to study ecology and animal conservation, so we knew that Chiang Mai, Thailand would be perfect. There, students see the interplay of Thailand’s incredible biodiversity with both developing indigenous cultures and modern global industry. To make this possible we partnered with organizations and individuals in Thailand making an impact, educating others, and shaping the world in positive ways.

Based on feedback from our initial groups of students and our own commitment to the animals of Thailand we developed our first veterinary service program with high schoolers in mind. The program was a success with students, however we were surprised by the high number of inquiries we received from college students interested in applying.

We introduced our first college veterinary service program for summer 2013 and we are proud to continue evolving our veterinary programs so that students can learn more, do more, and help more animals in Thailand and beyond.

For summer 2017 we have expanded our veterinary program to a cheetah reserve in South Africa. To offer this experience to our students, we’ve again followed the same formula of partnering with world-class conservationists who share our unwavering commitment to global animal welfare.

Finally, after years of development, we launched our 14-week pre-vet semester program for Fall ’17, with support from universities in Thailand and the United States and in conjunction with our partners in conservation in Chiang Mai. Our pre-vet semester abroad is truly a primer for vet school, consisting of animal science courses taught by leading U.S. Veterinarians. During theses courses students work alongside professors in the classroom and the field treating a wide-range of species, including exotic and marine. Outside of the classroom students explore Thai culture and the beauty of Southeast Asia.

We continue to expand our programs and geography while retaining our founding values. Loop Abroad now proudly offers a wide-range of travel experiences for students who share our commitment to animal welfare and respect for all living things.
